MR. JACK HOLLOW
The sudden passing ofMr. Jack Hollow, of 'Bungie Boomah,' Gollan, in a private hospital yesterday came as a great shock to his family and numerous friends. The deceased, who was 39 years of age, underwent an operation about three weeks ago, and appeared to be making a splendid recovery.
Yesterday afternoon he was on the hospital verandah, conversing with his wife, when he remarked that he did not feel too well, and on returning to his bed he collapsed and died.
The late Mr. Hollow, who was a native of the district, was a son of the late Mr. John Hollow and Mrs. Hollow, who now resides with her daughter in Wellington. He took a keen and active interest in all affairs that were for the progress of the town and district, and for many years was secretary of the Gollan Farmers and Settlers' Association, only relinquishing this position a few years ago. Last year he successfully organised the Gollan carnival, his secretarial work bringing credit to himself and the district for which he so proudly and untiringly worked.
He married Miss Marj. Morrison, who survives, together with four young daughters, viz., Pam (10), Moya (8), Jan (6) and Judy (4), also his aged mother, to whom the sincere sympathy of their friends will be extended. One brother (Mr. Eric Hollow, of Westella)
and three sisters, Muriel (Mrs. Phil Williams, Wellington), Vera (Mrs. Len Jordan, Spicer's Creek) and Dulcie (Mrs. Hec. Williams, Wellington) also survive.
The funeral took place this afternoon, a service being held in the Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. R. C. Lawton, also officiated at the graveside.
The remains were interred in the Baptist portion of the Wellington cemetery, beside those of his father. The funeral was a very large and representative one, testifying to the esteem in which deceased was held.
Messrs Murray Bros. had chargeof the funeral arrangements.
