Thomas Rowe Hollow served in WW1 with the St Ives RNR ( Royal Naval Reserve). On active duty in 1914 (their first enemy engagement ) aboard the HMS Highflyer the ship engaged and sank the North German Lloyd Liner Kaiser Wilhelm De Grosse off the West coast of Africa. Thomas was one of 15 St Ives RNR men on board the Highflyer.
Thomas died of disease in Malta while serving on SS Dunedin. He died in the Royal Naval Hospital at Bighi, Malta on November 2 1918. He is buried at the Capuchin Naval Cemetery, Bighi, Malta.
