From 1914, a 60th Wedding Anniversary celebration
Recently Mr. and Mrs. J. Hallo, of Woodside, celebrated their diamond wedding, having been married at St. Paul's, Cornwall, 60 years ago. A large number of friends gathered at their residence to convey to the old couple their congratulations, and a very enjoyable time was spent.
Their two sons (Messrs. W. And T. Hallo), a daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren were present. Mr. and Mrs. Hallo, although aged respectively 82 and 81 years, enjoy excellent health.
Mr. Hallo was born at St. Just, and Mrs. Hallo at Mousehole, 'Cornwall. They came to Adelaide in 1864 in the ship Peeress on her maiden voyage to Australia from Plymouth, the journey taking 90 days.
Messrs. W. Hallo, of Western Australia, and T. Hallo, of Port Augusta, are sons, and Mrs. R. Goldsworthy, of Broken Hill, is a daughter. There are also 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Hallo went to Woodside about 35 years ago, the former to work for the Woodside Gold Mining Company under Captain Bennett. He subsequently was employed at the Bird-in-Hand mine, where he met with an accident that cost him a leg. For 25 years the estimable couple have been storekeeping in Woodside, being agents for "The Advertiser" for the whole of that time, and they are still carrying on the business. They both have always been held in very high esteem.
They were presented by the Rev. J. H. Goss, on behalf of their friends in Woodside, with a beautiful oak chiming clock. Mr. Goss proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom. Mr. C. W. Fowler also spoke in eulogistic terms of the old couple. Mr. J. C. Lauterbach spoke of the high esteem in which Mr. and Mrs. Hallo had always been held, and the conscientious way they had attended to their duties as townsfolk. They have both been splendid workers in the Methodist Church. The old folk received many presents, letters, and telegrams of congratulation from their friends
