Philip Hensley's wife, Elizabeth Hensley, was killed in an accident in 1916, three years later Philip Hensley himself died too. Their many children were dispersed to various families -- with Edward James ending up with his (half) uncle, Edward John Hollow. Edward'sson John said his father always assumed he'd been formally adopted, but when we went to apply for a marriage licence, he discovered that in the eyes of Pennsylvania, he was still named Hensley. Apparently he had his name formally changed to Hollow at that time.

Philip Hensley, aged 49 years,for the past few years a car Inspector for the D., L. & W. railroad, died yesterday afternoon at the home of his son.Phillip Hensley, Jr., of 336,4 North Hyde park avenue. Mr. Hensley's death was due to heart trouble and followed a lingering illness. Mr. Hensley is survived by five sons. Phillip, James. Charles and Clarence Hensley, of this city; and Albert Hensley, With the U. S. Navy, In Cuba; and by - five daughters, Misses Jane. Augusta, Mae. and Margaret Hensley, of this city, and Mrs. Harry Moulter, of Stroudsburg. 'He is also survived by his stepfather, John Hollow; and by three sisters, Mrs. James Boone. Mrs. John Perks. and Miss. Susie. Hollow and by three brothers, John, Charles and Richard Hollow. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon with services at the home of Phillip Hensely.
