The Hollow Family

My father’s parents were Alfred Hollow and Margaret Ann Leitch are the starting point for this part of the family history. Alfred was from El Dorado in the North East of Victoria and was from a Cornish family. Margaret was from Walhalla in Gippsland Victoria and was from a Scottish family. Both were born in their respective home towns in Victoria.

El Dorado and Walhalla were both gold mining towns. It would be fair to say that gold brought these two together. They were married on 27th December 1899 at Walhalla and very soon started married life in Rutherglen, also a gold mining town in North East Victoria

The first Hollow of my family was Joseph Hollow, born 1817, in Redruth, Cornwall. He arrived in Victoria in 1854 and went to the gold mining district of Beechworth. His eldest son, also Joseph joined him in 1857 (this Joseph was my grandfather Alfred's father). Ten years later his wife and the rest of his family (five children) arrived from Redruth. Joseph senior and his family settled in a gold mining town, El Dorado, not far from Beechworth. Joseph Hollow senior was my great great Grandfather.

By clicking on the buttons across the top and down the side of this page you can move around this website and explore the information I have collected. Within each family section there is a family index that can take you to the pages for individuals in the family database.

The database will include spouse, parents, and or children of an individual. There may also be photographs. There is still more to be found and documented so I am always looking to add to the stories or images of the family.

To jump into the database to follow our ancestral lines back you can start at the grandparents.
