The Judd Family
The maternal half of my family were the Judds. My father married Caroline Elizabeth Judd the daughter of this couple. Kevin Joseph Judd and Dorothy May Downie (Dolly) were married in the Methodist Church, Neilborough, Victoria on August 5, 1914.

These families began in Australia with the following people.
Kevin Judd, born 1859 in County Wicklow, Ireland; he with his mother Elizabeth Dillon, born c1832, arrived in Melbourne on the ship 'Victoria' in 1862. Kevin Judd was the father of my grandfather, Kevin Joseph Judd.
Henry Downie, was born c1816 in London. The earliest Downey, Henry, born circa 1816 but his story is complicated. In Australian records Henry Downey appears when a convict in Tasmania changes his name from Cope to Downey in 1845. He had actually arrived with the name Henry Cope in 1833 on the convict ship 'Jupitor', convicted of stealing a handkerchief, value 3 shillings. He was sentenced to transportation for a term of 7 years. Henry Downie was the grandfather of Dorothy May Downie, my grandmother.
Henry's wife was another convict, Bridget Newell. Bridget was born at Galway, IRE, circa 1829. She was convicted for sheep stealing, at County Galway June sessions 23 June 1848 and sentenced to transportation for a term of 7 years, on 23 June 1848 at Galway. She arrived by the convict ship 'Maria' in 1849.To explore this family further, click on any of the links below or look for particular people in the People Index or Surname Index at the top of the website pages. - The Webster Family Bible This modest bible was passed down through five generations and contained snippets of family records.
- The Webster Album The album and many loose photographs have been passed down from Elizabeth Downie nee Webster to her daughter Dorothy then another generation to her daughter Caroline Hollow nee Judd. The photos may have belonged to Elizabeth’s mother originally as there seem to be some from the 1860s. Elizabeth was born in 1866 so it is probable the photos came from her mother Janet Webster nee Heatherwick.
